Elephant Safari in Chitwan National Park

Elephant Safari in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is situated in southwestern of Nepal and covers 932 square Kilometers. This is Nepal's first national park and is popular for wildlife safaris. You can see tiger, rhino, wild elephant, white footed gaur (the world's largest wild cattle), leopards, wild boar, sloth bear and several species of deer including the spotted, barking, samber and hog. It is the home of the one-horned rhinoceros and harbors one of the largest populations of the exclusive and rare Royal Bengal tigers. The swampy areas and numerous ox-bow lakes are a perfect habitat for marsh crocodiles. The park has recorded over 450 species of birds. The Tharu people who are pre-dominant of this area have unique cultural traditions. Watching them perform cultural song and dance is a major highlight of the visit to the national park.

Some of the major activities in the park area:

Canoe Trip: You can enjoy canoe trip on either The Rapti River or The Budhi Rapti River which border the National Park. You can see two types of crocodiles, the Gharial and Mugger basking on the river bank.

Bird Watching: For the bird watchers, the parks is a paradise island with over 450 species of exotic birds both domestic and migratory birds. Many are threatened, e.g. the Great pied hornbill, Bengal Florican, Peregrine falcon, lesser adjutant storks, etc. A bird watching trip will be a memorable experience.

Jungle Drive: A tour by four wheel drive in the less distributed areas of the park to track the rarer species. You will visit Ox-bow Lake and museum of historic interest relating to the park.
Nature Walk: Our experienced naturalists will accompany you to the more specialized habitats. This is the ideal opportunity to explore and experience at closer quarters and beauty of the flora and fauna. The authority of the naturalist must be closely observed to obviate any risks from wildlife attacks.

Elephant Breeding Centre: This is the first Elephant breeding centre in Asia. You can see baby elephants socializing with their parents and other babies. This centre is government owned and its purpose is to raise the young elephants, and to train them to convey tourist around the region.

Village tour: Excursion in Tharu village will grant you an exhilarating experience. Tharus are the indigenous inhabitant of the Terai. We offer guided cultural tours to meet the people and experience their traditional self-sufficient way of life.

Cultural Program: In the evening you will get an opportunity to be a part of Tharu folk dance. The drummers and symbolic stick dancers perform traditional movements and invite guests to join them in this rhythmic display. Such cultural shows performed by Tharus will be an unforgettable experience. The Tharus in traditional colorful costumes are sure to captivate you.

Elephant safari: Take an elephant ride to view the wild life of the area in their natural habitat.

Elephant Bathing: If you enjoy watching elephant bathing or want to get involve then this is definitely for you/.

Crocodile Walk: One more option is to go for crocodile walk. The trail passes into grassland and forest along the bank of Rapti / Narayani river.

    Royal Chitwan National Park

We came back to your office to thank you for planning our 7 day trek and 3- day stay at Royal Chitwan National Park. We had a great trek - an excellent guide and very helpful porter. We even had hot tea brought to our room on very cold mornings. Our guide Dinesh Dhakal was very thoughtful and took care of our needs.

Everything you promised was delivered - we did not have to worry about anything ! you have planned our trek well.

The trek was difficult for first time trekkers like we - my husband 71 yrs. Old and I am nearly 70. But both Dinesh and Rajan, our porter let us walk at our pace and gave us a hand when the descent looked impossible. And despite our age we made it! !

We both felt so protected and cared for. The people we met on the trek were interesting and we formed a wonderful camaraderie. We would not trade our trekking experience for anything and we would recommend it to our younger friends.

Thanks again - FUTURE TREKKERS - go with Nepal Environmental.
