Overview

Tibet, the highest place on earth, is situated in southern China bordered by the world’s highest Himalayan Mountains in the north. It is one of the most remote and yet culturally and naturally fascinating place on earth. There are many things to see and experience in Tibet. Lhasa tour with Everest Base Camp features exploration of two landmarks of Tibet, namely Lhasa and Everest Base Camp. You will make a memorable travel across the length and breadth of Tibet on a four wheel drive stopping at different Tibetan villages and towns, learning about their culture and interacting with the locals. 
 
Located at an altitude of 5300m, the north Everest Base Camp commands majestic views of north face of Mt. Everest and Rongbuk glaciers. From here it is a two days journey to reach Lhasa. Lhasa is the administrative capital of Tibet province of China which hosts impressive palaces and monasteries including Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, Barkhor street etc. 
 
Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition organizes this tour during May through September. The tour starts from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal and enters Tibet overland through Kerung, the town along Nepal-China border. From Kerung you will head towards Everest Base Camp by passing through Kharta valley and Rongbuk Monastery. The second leg of the tour takes you to Lhasa where you will spend two days exploring its various attractions. You will finally fly out of Lhasa to Kathmandu or your onward destination.  

Trip Itinerary

Early morning drive from Kathmandu (1310m) to Kerung Border(2800m) takes about 8-9 hours. Enjoy the beautiful hills and rivers along the way. Cross over to Tibet region of China after going through official border formalities.

Stay overnight at a guest house.

Drive from Kerung (2800m) to Tengri (4,300m)/ Lhatse(4,350m) takes about  6 hrs. Drive through exotic Tibetan landscape with breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mt. Sishapangma (8,012m). Tengri offers spectacular view of Mt. Everest (8,848m).

Leaving Tengri you will soon drive on Tibetan highway approaching Mt. Everest. En route you will cross over Pang-la pass (5,200m) which offers spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu before reaching Tashi Dzong village. From Tashi Dzong it is another 1 hour before you arrive at the 200 year old Rongbuk monastery. The monastery is perhaps the highest monastery in the world. Another half an hour drive from here takes you to Everest Base Camp. The towering image of north face of Mt. Everest along with Rongbuk glaciers enthrall you.

Overnight in camp. 

 

Exploring Everest Base Camp in the morning, you will depart for Larze. You will pass through the Xegar village before crossing Gyatchu- La pass (5220m). From here it it is all the way down to Larze village, located alongside Nepal- China Friendship Highway.

Today you will drive from Larze to Shigatse. Most of the trail is through rural villages surrounded by barley fields. After reaching Shigatse you can pay a visit to Tashilumpo Monastery and local Tibetan market.

The drive makes a scenic crossing over Gyatchu La(5,220m),the highest pass en route to Lhasa. En route you will stop over at Lhatse from where a road to Mt.Kailash bifurcates to the west. You can spend rest of the afternoon in Shigatse, home to Tashilumpu Monastery.

Stay overnight at hotel.

Drive from Shigatse(3,900m) to Gyantse (3,950m) takes about 5 hrs. You will continue driving through the vast expanse of Tibetan landscape. You can visit Kumbum Stupa and Phalkhor Monastery in Gyantse.

Stay Overnight at hotel. 

Drive from Gyantse(3,950m) -  Lhasa(3,650m) takes about 6 hrs. After Breakfast full day picturesque drive crossing over two high passes, namely Karo-La(5,010m), Kamba-La (4,749m). On the way you will stop over to appreciate the ethereal beauty and serenity of the colorful Yamdrok- Tso Lake and Yarlung Tsangpo River.

Stay Overnight at hotel.

Two days Sightseeing in Lhasa(3,600m). The sightseeing tour of Lhasa includes such landmarks as Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, Drepung, Sera Monasteries etc.

Fly from Lhasa to Kathmandu takes about 2 hrs. After Breakfast drive to Gonggar Airport or Train Station for your departure flight to Kathmandu or to your onward destination.
