Naya Kanga Peak (5844m)

Naya Kanga Peak (5844m)

Naya Kanga Peak (5844m) is an attractive peak rising to the west of the Ganja La pass (5122m). It is a popular but difficult mountain to climb with many possibilities of classic alpine attempt along its awesome ridge. The summit of Naya Kanga Peak offers the spectacular panoramic views of mountains in Nepal and Tibet including Langshisa Ri (6,310m), Pemthang Ri (6,836m), Shisapangma (8,046m), Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Pemthang Kapro Ri (6,830m) and Langtang II (6,581m).

The normal route of ascent to Naya Kanga (5844m) is via the snowy North - East Ridge.

The approach to Naya kanga peak is through the Langtang valley surrounded by appealing mountain peaks. Climbing this peak is mixed with an adventure walk through forest of Langtang National Park, the second largest national park in Nepal. Much of the trails touch Langtang National Park which is forested with pine, maple, oak, rhododendrons etc. The forest is inhabited by endangered and unique species like Red Pandas, leopard, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, rhesus and languor monkeys and and even Yeti!.

In the second leg of the trail, you will make a gradual descent to Helambu. Helambu is a small community of Sherpa people renowned for their hospitality and apples.

After early-morning breakfast, our guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about eight hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Syabru Besi (1600m.) to Lama Hotel (2470m.) takes about five and half hours. The first part of the trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail gradually ascends up to Bamboo passing through landslide. Thereafter, your trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3430m.) via Ghore Tabela takes about six hours.  As you continue climbing there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela [3000m], the trail emerges from the forest. Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project here, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Langtang Village to Kyangjin (3870m.) takes about three hours. The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens out further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin. Here, there is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory. You should arrive at Kyangjin by lunch time allowing time to acclimatise and explore the area. It is a dramatic setting, with snow covered peaks surrounding us in all directions. At this point, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6990m.), Langtang Ri (6370m.), Langtang Lirung (7245m.) and so on.  Stay overnight at lodge.

Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion in and around. This is day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Nyengang Kharka (4430m.) takes about five hours. After descending for about twenty minutes you cross a suspension bridge over Langtang Khola and then the trail moves uphill all the way to Nyengang Kharka. On both sides of your path you find juniper shrubs. You can enjoy the views of Langtang Lirung and Langtang Lirung glacier. Stay overnight in camp.

Trek from Nyengang Kharka to Naya Kang High Camp (4960m.) takes about four hours. The trail is steep ascent until you reach High Camp. You trek along the rocky and icy glacier. This day also you can enjoy the views of Langtang Lirung, Tserko ri, Ganchenpo peak, Kibgyu Ri, Yansi Tsenji peak and few others. Stay overnight in camp.

Trek from Nyengang Kharka to Kyangjin Gompa takes about four hours. You trek downhill until you cross a suspension bridge over Langtang Khola. Now, you ascend for about twenty minutes to reach Kyangjin Gompa. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel takes about six hours. From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at lodge.

Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2130m.) takes about six and half hours. You retrace your steps to Thulo Syabru, and then take a path passing through forests. Stay overnight at lodge (tea house).
